Running to Jesus

They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside — they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed.

In Jesus' day just the mention of His name stirred people to action - such a shame that people today either can't be bothered or they just don't know what He can do for them!

53 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gerinesaret and anchored there.54 As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus.55 They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was.56 And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed. Matthew 6:53-56

The wise and foolish builders.

Whatever you are building in life: Religion,
Relationships, Marriage, Family, Job, Education, Social
etc - Wisdom says read the instructions first.,

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them
into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain
came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that
house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But
everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into
practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. " The rain came
down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house,
and it fell with a great crash."

If the basis of our major decisions in life are ill considered or conceived and done in our own strength what hope is there?

Is this the day to leave your old life and start a new one with Jesus?

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two
brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were
casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. "Come,
follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men. "At
once they left their nets and followed him.

Light of the Epiphany . . ., "What the Heart Already Knows"
"The twelve days of Christmas came to an end on January 6, and the season of the Epiphany begins. But Epiphany not only ends Christmas, it also fulfils it by celebrating the revelation of the Christ to the whole world. The coming of Incarnate God to all people, especially to those of us who are Gentiles, is the bridge from birth into life, the event that makes Easter possible for most of us. The light of the Epiphany illuminates the church's year as it illuminates the human race from whom the kings came."

1 Corinthians 13 (The Christmas Version) by Anemone Reeves

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls, but do not show love to my family, I'm just another decorator.
If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love to my family, I'm just another cook.
If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home and give all that I have to charity, but not show love to my family, it profits me nothing.
If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties and sing in the choir's cantata, but do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.
Love stops the cooking to hug the child.
Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband. Love is kind, though harried and tired.
Love doesn't envy another's home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens.
Love doesn't yell at the kids to get out of the way, but is thankful they are there to be in the way.
Love doesnt give only to those who are able to give in return but rejoices in giving to those who can't.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
Video games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will rust.
But giving the gift of love will endure.

Prayer for Sunday next before Advent

Eternal Father,
whose Son Jesus Christ ascended to the throne of heaven
that he might rule over all things as Lord and King:
keep the Church in the unity of the Spirit
and in the bond of peace,
and bring the whole created order to worship at his feet;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Amen

We can all have a 'Jonah season' running away
from God when life is hard or when we are upset;
but in the end where else can we go
when God is the answer?

7 "When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.
8 "Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God's love for them. 9 But I, with shouts of grateful praise,
will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, 'Salvation comes from the LORD.'"

Prayer for Remembrance Sunday

Almighty Father,
whose will is to restore all things:
in your beloved Son, the King of all:
govern the hearts and minds of those in authority,
and bring the families of the nations,
divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin,
to be subject to his just and gentle rule;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Amen

Time is running out......

Jesus replied: "Watch out that you are not deceived. For
many will come in my name, claiming, *I am he/ and, 'The
time is near.' Do not follow them.9 When you hear of wars
and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must
happen first, but the end will not come right away."
10 Then he said to them: "Nation will rise against nation, and
kingdom against kingdom. " There will be great earthquakes,
famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events
and great signs from heaven.

A man healed at the pool of Bethesda
One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.
When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that
he had been in this condition for a long time,
Hhe asked him, "Do you want to get well?"

It's as good question and one that needs careful
thought as God will not go against our free will!

None so blind as those who will not see! Jesus heals a man who has been blind since birth.

"A second time they (the Pharisees) summoned the man who had been blind. "Give glory to God," they said. "We know this man (Jesus) is a sinner."

He replied, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!"

Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind."

Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, "What? Are we blind too?"

Jesus said, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

Born Again - What's it all about?

In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."
"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked, "Surely he cannot enter a second time Into his mother's womb to be born!"
Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. "Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. (John 3:3-6)

In the fast days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.

your old men will dream dreams.
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.
I will show wonders in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
The sun will be turned to darkness
