Advent - A time to ask God to shine his light into our dark corners......get busy the King is coming!
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the
truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just
and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness.

Collect for the Advent Sunday
Almighty God,
give us grace to cast away the works of darkness
and to put on the armour of light,
now in the time of this mortal life,
in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility;
that on the last day,
when he shall come again in his glorious majesty
to judge the living and the dead,
we may rise to the life immortal;
through him who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen

Humility and God's Wisdom
A truly humble man is sensible of his natural distance from
God; of his dependence on Him; of the insufficiency of his own
power and wisdom; and that it is by God's power that he is
upheld and provided for, and that he needs God's wisdom to
lead and guide him, and His might to enable him to do
what he ought to do for Him.

Eternal Father,

The Separation of the Sheep and the Goats.
"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to
drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King (Jesus) will reply, 'I tell

WE SHALL KEEP THE FAITH
Oh! You who sleep in Flanders' fields,
Sleep sweet - to rise anew,
We caught the torch you threw,
And holding high we kept
The faith with those who died.
We cherish too, the poppy red
That grows on fields where valour led.
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies,
But lends a lustre to the red
Of the flower that blooms above the dead
In Flanders' fields.
And now the torch and poppy red
Wear in honour of our dead.
Fear not that ye have died for naught
We've learned the lesson that ye taught
In Flanders' fields.

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap
sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap
generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his
heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God
loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace
abound to you, so that in ail things at all times, having all that
you need, you will abound in every good work.

| Jesus - recognising Him for who He is.
Who believes what we've heard and seen?
Who would have thought God's saving power would look like this?
The servant grew up before God—a scrawny seedling, a scrubby plant in a parched field.
There was nothing attractive about him, nothing to cause us to take a second look.
He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand.
One look at him and people turned away.
We looked down on him, thought he was scum.
But the fact is, it was our pains he carried— our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.
We thought he brought it on himself, that God was punishing him for his own failures.
But it was our sins that did that to him, that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins!
He took the punishment, and that made us whole.
Through his bruises we get healed.

| Jesus the Bread of Life
My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. By eating my flesh and drinking my blood you enter into me and I into you. In the same way that the fully alive Father sent me here and I live because of him, so the one who makes a meal of me lives because of me. This is the Bread from heaven.
Many among his disciples heard this and said, "This is tough
teaching, too tough to swallow." After this a lot of his disciples left.
They no longer wanted to be associated with him.
Then Jesus gave the Twelve their chance:
"Do you also want to leave?" Peter replied, "Master, to whom would
we go? You have the words of real life, eternal life. We've already
committed ourselves, confident that you are the Holy One of God."

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion?
Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life.

I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."

For further thought and prayer:
• We need to worship God in the way that He wants and that pleases Him, otherwise there is no point to any of our services or what we consider to be worship.
Stop and think: How does God want me to worship Him?
• We need to offer back to God the gifts that He has given us, to be developed and used in any way He wishes.
Stop and think: What are my gifts and how does God want me to use them?
• We need to ask God to develop our characters so that we grow into the likeness of Christ.
Stop and think: What do / need to ask Him to change in me so that I become more Christ-like?
• We need to have grateful hearts to God for all that He does for us, and to believe in His faithfulness to us as we are obedient to His commands.
Stop and think: What could be hindering me from having a heart that overflows with gratitude to Him?
• We perhaps need to take time and check and ask ourselves, are we following God, and serving Jesus Christ with undivided hearts?
Stop and think: What is an undivided heart? Is there anything in my life that is causing a separation from God: a less than 100% "sell-out" to God?

Worried about God's loving nature?
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in
them. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we
will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this
world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love
drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.
